Dry Tortugas National Park Fishing Report
March 22, 2010

Bucky Waters left Donna at home in Charleston, SC this trip and brought his business manager, Dave Cash, down to Key West for a three day Dry Tortugas National Park trip with David and I on the Lethal Weapon. We had beautiful weather and two extremely pleasant crossings in Rebecca Channel. The water was too cold for the Snappers although, Dave did manage to catch a beautiful big Mutton Snapper that we had for dinner. All was not lost due to the cold water, but we were forced to target huge fish. Stand-up light-tackle fishing for the big ones was new to Bucky and Dave but they took to it like ducks to water. It went back and forth, first Dave would catch a huge fish, then Bucky would catch a bigger one, then Dave would jump into the lead, then Bucky would retaliate - it was endless. The boys released over 5000 pounds of fish. We had 2 Nurse Sharks, 2 huge Lemon Sharks including this 300 pounder that David released. We also released 10 Goliath Groupers between 400# and 600#. Countless other fish were fought and lost due to the light tackle. All the fish were caught and released on stand-up 30# spinning gear. One of the highlights of the trip was a double-header Hammerhead Shark attack. Alas, both Hammers managed to beat us through no fault of our own. Tight Lines and Screaming Lines, Capt Ted
